ed was a longtime resident of the Bronx, New York and was born on December 1, 1926 in New York City to the late Edwin Arthur of Bloemfontein, Republic of the Orange Free State (in present day South Africa) and the former Anna O’Meara of County Tyrone, Ireland.
He was a US Navy veteran of WWII and the Korean War serving on the USS Wisconsin, BB-64 ; Master Sheet Metal Spinner at the Brooklyn Navy Yard and real estate specialist in the US General Services Administration.
Ed was a free and accepted Mason of 34 years. He was past master of Pelham Masonic Lodge # 712 on City Island in the Bronx and served as District Deputy Grand Master for the Bronx District. He was active as a Scottish Rite Mason and a Shriner.
He was a an accomplished bagpiper and student of the late pipe master, John MacKenzie. Ed was predeceased his wife the former Mary Genevieve King whom he married in 1950. He is survived by his three sons, Ned of New City, NY, John of Westborough, MA. and Jim of the Bronx, NY; ten grandchildren John, Ted, William, Genevieve, Bridget, Matthew, Jamie, Rory, Michelle and Kirk. There will be no wake but a Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11AM at The Church of St. Philip Neri, 3025 Grand Concourse at 202nd Street Bronx, N.Y. 10468 . Interment will be at The Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine in NYC.
